4th International Anti-Homophobia Meeting, this year is starting with the May 1 March in Ankara; and is ending with May 17 Anti-Homophobia March again in Ankara.
Kaos Gay and Lesbian Cultural Research and Solidarity Association has organized the International Anti-Homophobia Meeting within the week of May 17, in the capital city of Turkey, Ankara, for three years.
Anti-Homophobia Meeting was first held as a four-days hall event in 2006. In 2007, together with the central events, “Campus Meetings Against Homophobia” were realized in the three biggest university campuses of the capital.
Addressing the date on which the World Health Organization dropped homosexuality from its disease list, 17 May International Day Against Homophobia is the day for standing and acting against all physical, moral and symbolic types of violence targeting sexual identities and sexual orientations.
KAOS GL organizes social, cultural, and academic activities for the enhancement of human rights of LGBT individuals against discrimination for more than ten years.
The homophobic attitudes and behaviors together with discrimination against gays and lesbians in social, political, cultural and academic spheres, are discussed with the participation of experts, authors, artists, academics, politicians and journalists both from inside and outside of Turkey.
We know that LGBT individuals are faced with homophobic attitudes and behaviors in every aspect of their lives and they are exposed to discrimination just because of their sexual orientation and gender identity.
We recognize the fact that the problem of homophobia is not the problem of just LGBT people, but also of those heterosexual women and men.
We look forward for your contribution and suggestions about the organization of International Anti-Homophobia Meeting, which has been one of the important steps for the development of freedom of expression and organization rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) community, in all stages both in cities and campuses.
